Looking to ship a few boxes abroad? Check out Xavier’s perfect experience with Excess Baggage Shipping and start planning your own international move!

We’d like to know the origin and destination of your move, and most importantly the reason of your move. How did you experience that?

I had to move abroad due to my professional activities. Although I rented a house with furniture, I needed to transport quite some boxes with clothing, lots of other things and my bike! The driver arrived perfectly on time and stored everything carefully in the truck (my bike was even protected with blankets). I was very happy that I was allowed to drive along with him and during our ride (2h14m) we had a pleasant conversation. He also drove carefully and respected all road signs, which gave me a safe feeling. For me, this experience was just perfect!

Choosing a good moving company is painful, we know that. How did you manage to find the perfect one among the thousands of existing ones?

No, as I had little time left, I did not do any research. Instead, I’ve contacted Sirelo directly. Excess Baggage Shipping was the first to respond (a couple of hours after my request!) and the quote that I’ve received from the company was a very fair price. Although my request was very short notice, the company guaranteed to pick me and my stuff up at the scheduled timing. For me it was absolutely necessary that I could drive along with the transporter, which was not a problem at all. All communication went very swiftly.

Take us through the moving day – did everything go as planned?

Moving time was scheduled between 10 and 11 AM. Driver arrived on 9h55 and 10 minutes later we took off. Everything was stored carefully (my bike was even protected with blankets). I was allowed to drive along and his estimate of the duration of the trip was 100% correct; 2h10 minutes later, we reached our destination. During the trip we had a pleasant conversation and the driver drove carefully and respected all road signs. Everything arrived in perfect condition. So, everything worked out perfectly!

What are a few tips that you think could help others make their moving day less chaotic?

  1. Try to book a company at least 4 weeks before the date of moving.
  2. Make good arrangements with the shipping company and get them confirmed by e-mail.
  3. Make sure that everything is ready before the arrival of the shipper and pack everything as best as possible.
  4. Consider each box as a box that has to be shipped via your national post officer and protect everything accordingly.
  5. Check the reviews of the shipping company and don’t jump into conclusions too fast (in case of a couple of negative reviews of in case of only positive ones).
